This service gives personalized support to passengers who need mobility assistance at the airport, during boarding or on the way to their seat.
Types of assistance
LATAM offers three types of wheelchair assistance, based on the passenger's mobility and how much support they need:
| Code | Description | Type of processing |
|---|---|---|
| WCHR | Assistance up to the aircraft. The passenger can climb stairs and reach their seat on their own. | Automatic |
| WCHS | Assistance up to the aircraft door. The passenger can't climb stairs but can reach their seat on their own. | Automatic |
| WCHC | Assistance all the way to the seat on board. The passenger can't walk and needs to be carried to their seat. | Manual |

Using this service doesn't automatically mean the passenger needs a companion. That depends on their mobility and on whether they can manage on their own in an evacuation.
How to request the service
The request must be made when booking, preferably at least 24 hours before flight departure.
Requests made with less notice are subject to the operational availability of the airport and LATAM. In these cases, the same coordination times cannot be guaranteed.
It helps to briefly explain why the assistance is needed so LATAM can prepare the service. In some cases we may ask for more details to confirm whether the passenger needs medical clearance, a companion or other special assistance.
Wheelchair provided by LATAM
The passenger gets help moving through the airport, reaching the aircraft, boarding and, where applicable, getting to their seat.
On flights to or from the United States, assistance can start at the terminal door and continue through boarding and deplaning, if the passenger asks for it.
The passenger's own wheelchair
Passengers can travel with their own wheelchair or mobility device. These items are transported in the hold at no additional cost and do not count toward the baggage allowance. When requesting the service, the passenger must provide the wheelchair's characteristics and the type of assistance needed at the airport.
Types of personal wheelchairs and devices
| Code | Description | Type of processing |
|---|---|---|
| WCBW | Passenger's own wheelchair or mobility aid powered by a dry, gel or spillable battery. | Automatic |
| WCBD | Wheelchair or scooter powered by a dry or non-spillable gel battery. Passengers traveling with this type of chair should arrive at the airport earlier than usual. | Automatic |
| WCMP | Passenger's own manual wheelchair. | Automatic |
| WCLB | Wheelchair powered by a lithium battery. | Automatic |

Lithium batteries
Wheelchairs with lithium batteries can be carried as long as they meet the safety conditions. Allowed:
- One battery of up to 300 Wh.
- Two batteries of up to 160 Wh each.
- The battery must stay secured or installed in the wheelchair.
Spare batteries
- You can carry a maximum of two spare batteries in your carry-on baggage.
- They must be protected against short circuits.
- Keep them in their original packaging or tape over the terminals.
- No spare battery can have a lithium content above 8 grams.
- Carry the batteries separately, in a protective case or pouch.
The battery capacity must be shown on its label. If it isn't, the passenger needs to bring the wheelchair's spec sheet to the airport to confirm it meets the requirements.
Seat assignment
- Whenever possible, assign the passenger an aisle seat close to the aircraft doors.
- In some cases the recommended location varies by aircraft type.
Locations by aircraft type
- B787-8 Retrofit, Premium cabin: seats 1A, 3A, 3L, 4D, 4H, 5A, 5L.
- B787-9 Retrofit, Premium cabin: seats 1A, 3A, 5A, 7A, 4DH, 6DH, 8DH, 3L, 5L, 7L.
Flights operated by the Embraer E195-E2: because of the size and design of this aircraft's cargo hold, only WCHR, WCHS and WCHC wheelchairs up to 90 centimeters high are accepted. Whenever possible, seats are assigned in the last rows, preferably aisle seats near the rear door. The passenger's seat choice and the cabin they bought are always taken into account.
Changes
For voluntary changes to the flight, date or route, assistance will not automatically transfer to the new booking. The service must be requested again and is subject to availability and confirmation.
Corporate notes
This feature is currently not available directly in the Corporate Portal.

If the ticket was issued by a travel agency, the request must be handled directly with the issuing agency.
The service should be requested at least 24 hours in advance. If the passenger needs additional special assistance, this must be reported at least 48 hours in advance. Requests made with less notice are subject to the operational availability of the airport and LATAM.
